Lipodissolve is commonly known as the “surgery-free” liposuction or “anti-fat shot.” As it turns out, the FDA has never approved the drug combinations used in these shots and they recently issued warnings against six US-based medical spas for their misleading claims. The companies have been cited for a variety of regulatory violations, including making unsupported claims that the products have an outstanding safety record and are superior to other fat loss procedures, including liposuction. The FDA says it has no scientific proof these products do what the companies claim.
“We are concerned that these companies are misleading consumers,” said Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. “It is important for anyone who is considering this voluntary procedure to understand that the products used to perform lipodissolve procedures are not approved by the FDA for fat removal.”

Plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular and more doctors seem to be jumping on the bandwagon, so to speak. In medicine there are no laws that restrict a physician to practicing the type of medicine or surgery for which he was specifically trained. Any licensed physician can call himself a cosmetic surgeon, so it is very important to do your research before choosing your doctor.
Make sure that your physician is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery. In doing so, you can be assured that the surgeon has completed undergraduate college, medical school, an approved general surgery residency of at least three years, and an approved plastic surgery residency of an additional two to three years. Board certification is then obtained only after the candidate has been in plastic surgery practice for at least two years and has passed rigorous written and oral examinations administered by experienced plastic surgeons.
Once you have done your research, you should make your appointment for your consultation. This appointment will not only provide you with the information about the surgery in which you are interested, but it also allows you to meet with your physician, their staff and see the facility — because how you feel about your doctor and their staff is an important part of the surgical experience.
If you have questions about our board certified physicians or would like to schedule your complimentary consultation, we invite you to contact our office.

The holidays will be upon us before you know it, and it is traditionally our busiest time of the year. Many people like to schedule their surgeries during this time as they can recover from surgery without missing work or school. They can return to their regular routine following the holidays with their improved and refreshed appearance.
Scheduling surgeries such as breast augmentation or tummy tuck over the holidays does take some planning. People should be certain they have friends or family available to help them during their recovery. They should also know what obligations they still have during the holiday season and plan accordingly.
Our schedules fill up quickly, so if you’ve thought about having surgery during the holidays, remember to schedule your consultation at least a couple of weeks before your anticipated surgery date.
