Dr. Ed Pittman spent his formative years in Athens, Georgia. After completing studies at Athens Academy and the University of Georgia he attended the Medical College of Georgia where he was inducted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha (the Phi Beta Kappa of medical school) and upon graduation received the Merck Manual Award for Academic Excellence. Next followed a full General Surgery residency at Wake Forest University Medical Center. Dr. Pittman was then chosen for a plastic surgery residency at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Upon graduation, he was appointed Assistant Professor of plastic surgery at the same institution, educating the next wave of plastic surgeons. During that period, Dr. Pittman spoke at both national and international plastic surgery meetings on topics ranging from breast augmentation and melanoma to cosmetic surgery of the face. He also published numerous articles in the plastic surgery literature.

A dream was fulfilled when Dr. Pittman returned to Athens in 1993 and founded Plastic Surgery of Athens, P.C. Continually striving for excellence and optimal patient care, he cofounded The Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, P.C. in 2001. This provided the area the largest, most state-of-the-art out patient surgery facility devoted strictly to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Dr. Pittman is described by his patients as artistic, warm, compassionate and a perfectionist. He continually strives to deliver optimal surgical results with unsurpassed patient comfort. He is an active member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Georgia Society of Plastic Surgeons and is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Quality of medical care is of utmost importance to him. As such, Dr. Pittman has served multiple times as Chief of Surgery and President of the Medical Staff at Athens Regional Medical Center and on the Executive Committee at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Dr. Pittman’s other passion is flying. As an instrument rated private pilot with over 600 hours, he knows the importance of careful planning and adherence to established safety measures and carries these principles into his surgical practice. Other interests include travel, boating, saltwater fishing, and, of course, Georgia football. Dr. Pittman is married to Susan, an artist, and has two children in college studying interior design and architecture.
